EXCLUSIVE TOUR TO SEE WILD FAUNA IN THE YARAPA COMMUNAL RESERVE
We will start our trip in the morning (depending on the weather, we can start at 6 or 7am) with a 100km journey, which will take us around 1.5hrs. We will arrive at the city of Nauta where a boat will be waiting for us to take us to the place of the tour.
We will navigate the Marañón River, bordering the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, the largest protected natural area in South America. We will have tremendous opportunities to see different species of birds, pink and gray dolphins, and with some luck, see sloths hanging from tree branches. In approximately 1.5 hours we will arrive at the community of Puerto Miguel, a small town that will show us the lifestyle of the riverside populations. Our Guide will explain about the community, its history, its type of organization and economy.
This will be a good opportunity to find out if any of the residents have a sloth at home that we can load and take pictures for memories. These sloths are not pets or used as an attraction for visitors, but are considered a member of the family. Some residents often also have boa constrictors at home to help them clean up rats and mice or other small rodents.
After a small informative visit, we will go to the entrance of the Yarapa River where we can see pink and gray dolphins. If you wish, you can bathe in this place. We will have lunch contemplating the scenic beauty of the jungle.
The sounds of the birds and the splashing of the dolphins will allow us to feel the power of nature. Our Wildlife tour is not over yet and we must continue… our wooden boat will take us a little further into the Yarapa River where we can find some species of monkeys that live in this forest.
Woolly monkeys, huapos, musmuquis and squirrel monkeys are the most common. We will also be able to see many varieties of birds such as seagulls, herons, hawks, hawks, kingfishers, toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, etc. If we have a little more time, we can take a walk in the primary jungle to learn about the importance and use of plants as traditional medicine. We can also see huge trees.
On this walk we will also see leaf-cutter ants and maybe we can find some kind of frog. There is a lot to do, but time wins. We need to start our journey back to the city.
NOTE: Approximate arrival time to the city: 5:00 pm.
All our programs are flexible and the activities can change the order of the itinerary depending on weather conditions.
